two down, one to go
An arduous couple of weeks around the studio, and I say around because the arduous part essentially has kept me from riding the brushes. This weekend has been a matter of getting the rest of my house (literally) in order, but come tomorrow it'll be time to hunker down focus on the May 4th show.
My continuation of candidacy for the MFA program was Friday. After a hiccup or two, I hung all of the work of recent months in one place for the first time ever. Pretty interesting seeing what I'd only seen as a group in my mind made flesh, as it were- their size disallows me seeing more than one or two of them at a time in the spaces I have to work with, so I've had to just take a leap of faith about how they'd look hanging together. That was the best part of the C of C reveiw, and it really helped me gain some perspective on what I had to do to pull the show together. Work my ass off, mostly- I've been working on the basic principal that I should get all the pieces underway so that I had a clearer idea of what the body of work would look like, and then bring them all to the same level of finish and compatible presentation. Except for one or two pieces that have yet to be undertaken, I think I'm on track, but I'm not kidding myself about the amount of finish work that needs to happen during the next few months, and how critical presentation will be to the over all effect of the show. Lighting, too- I had no control over that this go round and a few of the pieces really suffered because of it.
The rest of the process went pretty much as expected, my candidacy is continued (yay!), and I heard a few things that were worth considering as I go forward, but the bottom line is that I just have to work, not show all my cards, and remember to keep the reins loose while I sit high in the saddle. Never let it be said that mixing metaphors is without value.

Oh! Before I go, let me say that Extra Large Red, my husband's F-250 Diesel, is a handy thing to have in the driveway- the Prometheus fit in the bed just fine, and we made it down the highway without incident. Happiness is another logistical challenge met!
Here's the last progress report on that painting- seeing it up on the wall with the paper pieces made me realize what had to happen to it next, but I'm not going to tell until I've managed to pull it off.
